Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
With everyone now using online sources and television to partake information, the sale of newspapers have decreased and so have magazines. Writers, editors, and publicist do not get enough credit for the effort they put into creating news stories, newspapers and magazines. I personally believe they should not put all of the information that is in a newspaper on their websites. Some stories should only be promoted in the newspapers. I am not totally against online sites though and I do not believe people should have to pay for online newspapers, because someone is paying for it any way. The internet is not free, whoever the provider of the service gets paid. I do agree that they should not put a link to look at the today’s newspaper on their site but just have the site have articles and other outlets instead of letting the paper be viewable. Here is an article that was written by Martin Langeveld he feels that if online newspapers do not start charging then the news paper funds will have a big drop within the next couple of years. Media mogul Rupert Murdoch gave a speech this past summer stating that the free online newspaper era will soon be over due to the 47% downfall it has taken. How will you feel if one day you went on hmmm… let’s say the Detroit Free Press and see that their is a monthly subscription to pay to view the online news paper content. I personally do not think that is good either because stuff happen, what if one day your computer questions or your internet is down then what ? You would just be paying for something that you have no control over and unable to sell. Yes new technology is convenient but a few years from now everything will be paperless! Lets Save The Tree’s But Let’s not break the Citizen pockets!

Magazines are Good Resources
Recently I browsed through some magazines that I never actually took the time out to look at. Surprisingly I learned a lot of interesting things. Southern Living, Better Home and the Columbia Journalism Review. Each magazine had a different approach for its readers, Better Homes, and Southern Living however was kind of the same. Both magazine targeted the adult women audience.
Better Homes did not have any articles but it did include pictures and tips on how to decorate your house for the holidays. It included a a gift guide with great holiday gifts for under the price of $35 and it also has a section of delicious holiday recipes that would be great for the chefs in the family! Southern Living is similar but has a different approach its targeted audience would be for younger and older women. It focuses on mainly southern states such as Mississippi, Texas, South Carolina, etc. It includes a section of the 5 best cities to travel to during the Christmas Holiday and a section of newly remodeled homes, healthy living tips and beautiful holiday flowers and decorations. But the section that takes my interest the most would have to be the recipes, just like in the Better Homes section. It has dishes, desserts, and snacks! Who needs a cook book when you can just purchase these magazines that have everything you need in it.
Lastly would be the Columbia Journalism Review. This magazine is very thin and seems like it targets other journalists, and people who like to read, probably older adults. It is actually filled with long stories and articles and not that many pictures. I would recommend it for college students pursuing a career in journalism because it did have a lot of resourceful articles in it one that took my interest was “The Bigger Tent” it was an article about the highs and lows of journalism.
To sum everything up, pick up a magazine that you would never normally look at and see how beneficial it may be to you. Their may be plenty of tips, articles and ideas that you could find resourceful!
