Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

With everyone now using online sources and television to partake information, the sale of newspapers have decreased and so have magazines. Writers, editors, and publicist do not get enough credit for the effort they put into creating news stories, newspapers and magazines. I personally believe they should not put all of the information that is in a newspaper on their websites. Some stories should only be promoted in the newspapers. I am not totally against online sites though and I do not believe people should have to pay for online newspapers, because someone is paying for it any way. The internet is not free, whoever the provider of the service gets paid. I do agree that they should not put a link to look at the today’s newspaper on their site but just have the site have articles and other outlets instead of letting the paper be viewable. Here is an article that was written by Martin Langeveld he feels that if online newspapers do not start charging then the news paper funds will have a big drop within the next couple of years. Media mogul Rupert Murdoch gave a speech this past summer stating that the free online newspaper era will soon be over due to the 47% downfall it has taken. How will you feel if one day you went on hmmm… let’s say the Detroit Free Press and see that their is a monthly subscription to pay to view the online news paper content. I personally do not think that is good either because stuff happen, what if one day your computer questions or your internet is down then what ? You would just be paying for something that you have no control over and unable to sell. Yes new technology is convenient but a few years from now everything will be paperless! Lets Save The Tree’s But Let’s not break the Citizen pockets!

Magazines are Good Resources

Recently I browsed through some magazines that I never actually took the time out to look at. Surprisingly I learned a lot of interesting things. Southern Living, Better Home and the Columbia Journalism Review. Each magazine had a different approach for its readers, Better Homes, and Southern Living however was kind of the same. Both magazine targeted the adult women audience.

Better Homes did not have any articles but it did include pictures and tips on how to decorate your house for the holidays. It included a a gift guide with great holiday gifts for under the price of $35 and it also has a section of delicious holiday recipes that would be great for the chefs in the family! Southern Living is similar but has a different approach its targeted audience would be for younger and older women. It focuses on mainly southern states such as Mississippi, Texas, South Carolina, etc.  It includes a section of the 5 best cities to travel to during the Christmas Holiday and a section of newly remodeled homes, healthy living tips and beautiful holiday flowers and decorations. But the section that takes my interest the most would have to be the recipes, just like in the Better Homes section. It has dishes, desserts, and snacks! Who needs a cook book when you can just purchase these magazines that have everything you need in it.

Lastly would be the Columbia Journalism Review. This magazine is very thin and seems like it targets other journalists, and people who like to read, probably older adults. It is actually filled with long stories and articles and not that many pictures. I would recommend it for college students pursuing a career in journalism because it did have a lot of resourceful articles in it one that took my interest was “The Bigger Tent” it was an article about the highs and lows of journalism.

To sum everything up, pick up a magazine that you would never normally look at and see how beneficial it may be to you. Their may be plenty of tips, articles and ideas that you could find resourceful!

Hello “Tweeties”

Tweeties, twitter language most often used in replace of sweeties. Since the launch of Twitter I was very skeptical about joining the twitter world. I use to think that constant status updates were pointless and stupid. Facebook already took up enough of my time and opening something else would be pointless. Well just last month I eventually gave in just to see what all the excitement  was about. To be quite honost I actually like it! It is more interesting then facebook and being able to see discussions about different comments as well as the joking trending topics are very ammusing. With twitter you are only allowed to update your tweets with a 140 character limit. Who would have ever thought this would expand to one of the greatest social networking sites enabling people to even keep up and tweet with celebs all around the world. I mostly prefer to use twitter from my mobile device because it allows me to have a simple retweet option and I am always on the go which leads me no time for the computer. I personally would recommend alot of people to join twitter I think I may even disable my facebook account.

This image to me represents balance and framing because it seems centered and equal and the color of the object is captured well making the photo seem even more realistic.Balance and Framing

Angle and ContrastThis image represents angle contrast just from the way the photographer took the image and the distance of the photo as well as the hue. It gives it a dark but lively contrast.

Above and Beyond Just Reading

Every person has a tale to tell, a life story and wisdom to share with others. Everything does not have to be written in black and white or simply published in a book. Writers can grab a reader’s attention through interaction, pictures, videos or even music. Three stories that touched students today were the Christ Child House a project created by the Detroit Free Press. A boy with prader-willi syndrome, a report given by the Howard County Times and Minnesota Bridge Collapse given by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.  Each Project told a heartfelt story all using pictures and videos. The Christ Child House project gives viewers the chance to read stories about young boys and men who are in foster care that have been abused or abandoned. The pictures and videos of their daily living works best for the project because each image captured the happiness and sadness of each boy. The project also gives each child hope in finding a home.

The boy with prader- willi syndrome had to be the most inspiring story. It is about a boy who always has the urge to eat. The sound effects of the boy eating and crying made me feel like I was actually in his presence. The mixture of black and white photos and video together made the story seem even more realistic and touching. The silences and crying even added more emphasis on the pain and anxiety that both the boy and his father go through.

Lastly was the Minnesota Bridge Collapse this article was very interactive and different. The fact that they found the majority of the people who were in each car and got their story was really cool. Readers could scroll over each numbered car and click to read a story or video of the person it impacted. This article was very touching because the people described what they were going through during their near death experience. This project is not complete yet because there are still cars left without a story. It was also sad to scroll over the cars to find out that the person was killed on the bridge. I personally like this article the most because it is different and seeing each person’s story put me in their position.

The Heart of DETROIT

detroitDetroit once one of the most popular cities in the United States, is trying to make a comeback. A lot of people sleep on the city once know as “Motown” or shall I say Hitsville USA. Back in the 60’s and 70’s Detroit use to be a well known attraction site where everyone wanted to live such as Hollywood, Atlanta and Miami. But why did such a beautiful city go down hill? As soon as it started become more and more popular the more people started to move in, the worse the economy got and the crime rates began to get higher and that is when the media started to give Detroit a bad name.

4a581585-178f-4fe0-9f59-b2e9482f7597I love Detroit and one day soon we are going to bounce back just like an old fashion trend that comes back in style. We are the home of the Big 3 auto industries, Chrysler,GM and Ford. We have our own based home brands such as Bettermaid, Faygo and the world known brand Kelloggs cereal. Detroit helped pave away for today’s music industry with the help of Berry Gordy, founder of Motown. Well known artists, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, The Temptations and even the King of Pop Michael Jackson were all signed under Motown record label.

I can honestly say that Yes Detroit has gotten worse but it is our fault!!! We have to learn how to take care of our city instead of destroying it. Many people are trying to gain the heart of Detroit back and fix up Downtown and metro Detroit by adding more attraction sites. How could you not notice those three huge casinos? There is always something to do here in the summer hart plaza host free festivals, there’s the lovely riverwalk, and in the winter you can go ice skating at campus martius!!!!

So actually there is nothing I would change about Detroit I believe that as soon as our economy get better Detroit will be right back on the map!!!

Obama on David Letterman Show

obama-gtfohLast night many viewers tuned in to watch President Barack Obama on the David Letterman show. This has been his 6th appearence since last year back in September when he appeared on the show for an interview. Obama makes plenty of TV appearences capturing audiences of all different genres young and old. After listening backstage to an audience member who designed a “heart shaped potato” as soon as Obama came on stage, Letterman asked him “what is the main reason you come on the show?” and Obama said he really do not know probably because he wanted to see the heart-shaped potato the woman made.

Letterman asked Obama about his healthcare plan and do he believe that racism plays a major role with it. And jokingly Obama stated  “First of all, I think it’s important to realize that I was actually black before the election.”  The audience found this very ammusing as the entire station laughed at the witty president.

On a more serious note however, Obama discussed the unemployment rate that is steadily decreasing and will remain a downfall for another year or so. But he also stated that after this drought season of jobs the economy will pick up and be stronger than ever. The war on Afghanistan later came up and Obama stated that he still has not decided if he will send out more troops until he comes up with a good strategy and review on the war. Alot of citizens want him to bring home our troops while others feel that he should send more in to help win the war.

That is when she was introduced and turned out on drugs with her ex-husband Bobby Brown, who was also abusive. She stated how because of her wealth and fame Bobby Brown eventually started to have a jealous side so she began to dim her own light. But now Whitney is getting her life back on track and now has a new album called ” I look to You.”
